Assessing the complexity of infrastructure projects using fuzzy DEMATEL technique

Abstract

ABSTRACT

Official development assistance (ODA) for infrastructure development projects plays a vital role in the development of Vietnam and other developing countries. However, numerous uncertainty, risks, and failures are recognized regarding the implementation of these projects such as the increase in total cost and time, and low construction quality. Previous studies suggested that complexity management is the key to the success of projects with ODA funds. In Vietnam, there is a few numbers of research that focus on complexity management, especially ODAfunded infrastructure construction projects. As a result, this study will concentrate on researching two fundamental objectives of complexity management, which are identifying complexity factors and mapping the interrelationship among these complexity factors regarding infrastructure projects with ODA funds by using the fuzzy DEMATEL technique. This study will help researchers and project managers to identify complexity factors and propose suitable complexity management strategies to achieve project success.
