The morphology of public space in the center core area of Ho Chi Minh City
Abstract
All around the world, every city has a center that plays an important role in shaping the urban structure and defining the architectural style. The larger the urban scale, the more centers with various functions are developed. These centers have unique characteristics that reflect the cultural diversity and urban morphology, including both regional and city-wide centers. Among them, the historic inner city center is considered the core center that needs to be preserved and exploited for its potential value over time. Because the center always holds many historical stories and spiritual values of the founding people, contributing to the formation and development of a region. And it is also where public spaces are created to meet the essential needs of the urban community. In the city, public spaces are one of the most memorable places for connecting community activities alongside people's daily lives. Analyzing the morphology of public spaces helps us understand the spatial characteristics and the arrangement of urban functional areas. From there, there is a scientific basis to propose urban development policies that exploit the values of these places and create a unique urban identity.
