General requirements of montessori architecture in Montessori preschools

Abstract

The Montessori method of education, named after the Italian doctor Maria Montessori, has been widely used in many countries for more than one hundred years. The Montessori method of education is built on the child's self-development, independence and self-control capacity in a specially designed environment to meet the needs of children at different ages. In the past 10 years, the Montessori method has been becoming more and more popular and applied in many preschools in big cities in Vietnam. According to the educational philosophy of the method, Montessori architecture has different characteristics compared to the traditional preschools. However, the application of trandional preschool design priciples in Montessori environment prevents to maximize the effectiveness of this method. This article outlines 8 basic design requirements for Montessori architecture to ensure the best learning and developing conditions for children.
