Characteristics, potential and orientation for conservation of Sword Lake’s space in continuing development
Abstract
This study aims to re-evaluate the characteristics of the space of Hanoi’s Sword Lake and its conservation potentials, thereby proposing conservation orientation in the continuing development. The main research method used is the Method of Urban Heritage Conservation Potentials Assessment proposed by Nahoum Cohen, but it has been adjusted to adapt to the specific contexts of Vietnamese urban heritages and at the same time more convenient for proccess of assessment. The data were collected and aggregated from the literature review and on-site survey and evaluation. Quantitative research results show that Sword Lake’s space has great conservation potential, up to 76/100 points. That on the one hand affirms its multifaceted values, on the other hand identifies specific problems and challenges for this precious space, so as to have an orientation to conserve and add values to the area.
