Abstract

In this article, the fire and explosion hazard of Hydrogen is listed and compared with methane (the main ingredient in natural gas and biogas) - a gas is well – known as explosion and fire hazard. A comparison of the physicochemical properties of hydrogen with those of methane has performed. The results demonstrate that hydrogen is more dangerous than fossil fuels. Based on the results of the comparison, conclusions about the fire and explosion hazards of hydrogen are summed up and the explosion risks of hydrogen are elvaluated. Besides, we have also made recommendations when hydrogen is used as an alternative fuel which replacing fossil fuels.

Keywords: Hydrogen; alternative energy; fossil energy; methane; fire hazard; fire risk.
