Some factors affecting the sustainable development of housing architecture for ethnic minorities in the northern mountainous regions
Abstract
Currently, in the northern mountainous ethnic minority areas, rapid housing development is taking place due to the renovation and construction of new homes to meet people's living needs. Many long-standing traditional stilt houses with wooden structures and thatched or tiled roofs are being demolished and replaced with houses featuring dirt floors, steel frame structures, and corrugated iron roofs, which are becoming increasingly common in ethnic minority villages. In reality, the functions and designs of these new houses are entirely unfamiliar to the traditional architectural culture of the local ethnic groups. This raises several questions: On what practical basis should the sustainable development of housing architecture be built to address these challenges? What factors are influencing the sustainable development and management of housing architecture in ethnic minority communities in the northern mountainous region? Addressing these questions will help policymakers, researchers, and experts develop policies, provide specific directions, and propose solutions that balance housing architecture development with the preservation of traditional folk architectural and cultural values in the northern mountainous region.
This article focuses on identifying, analyzing, and evaluating the factors directly affecting the construction and sustainable development of housing architecture in ethnic minority areas of the northern mountainous region. The study employs research methods such as document collection and synthesis, as well as the analysis and evaluation of data and materials to identify the key factors influencing the sustainable development of housing architecture. The research findings highlight eight main factor groups that impact housing, serving as a scientific basis for further studies and recommendations for sustainable housing development in ethnic minority communities in the northern mountainous region.
