Practical experience in urban development management associated with green growth and lessons learned for Vietnamese cities

Abstract

ABSTRACT

Cities increasingly assert their important role in improving the quality of community life and contributing to socio-economic development in general. However, the strong growth of urban areas, if not managed and controlled, often causes consequences such as resource degradation, environmental pollution, social inequality, increased cost of living and investment costs etc.. Nowadays, urban development management associated with green growth is a global trend to both solve the task of sustainable urban development and minimize the negativeproblems above, towards a balanced development, establishing an urban ecosystem in close proximity to the natural ecosystem. On the basis of analyzing theories on urban development management and urban development management experience associated with green growth in the world and some cities in Vietnam, the article discusses the lessons learned of urban development management associated with green growth for Vietnam cities, in order to contribute effective urban development management directions, achieving green growth goals in the long term.
