Sponge City measure for Viet Nam urban drainage toward sustainable development - challenges and orientations
Abstract
ABSTRACT:
Due to urbanization and climate change, effective rainwater drainage is always a priority concern of Vietnamese cities. Sustainable measures such as SUDS, LID, and sponge city are applied in countries around the world and have shown to be more efficient than conventional drainage systems. In this study, authors based on the experience of implementing sponge city solutions of cities around the world in order to identify and forecast difficulties, challenges and orientations
to implement the sponge city in Vietnamese urban and propose some implementation orientations in the near future. The research results also show the feasibility of the sponge city when applied in Vietnamese cities, especially in the Mekong Delta in the context of severe impacts of climate change and sea level rise.
