FOLK PERFORMING ARTS IN THE COMMUNITY-BASED TOURISM DEVELOPMENT: A TRANSDISCIPLINARY STUDY AT PO NAGAR TOWER – NHA TRANG

Abstract

The tourism product based on exploring folk performing art resources is a new factor that has arisen from the spiritual tourism development process. This study is at Po Nagar tower, Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province, using the ethnographic fieldwork includes participant observation and in-depth interview. This article provides a framework to explain the participation manner of the subjects, how to explore tourism products, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the community-based tourism model. These tourism products present a new approach to exploring folk performing art resources via the community role and contribution. Building the tourism product process of folk performing arts implies the renewal of traditional cultural values in the new context. These findings contribute to consider the success and restriction of the community-based tourism model for exploring tourism products. Therefore, this study suggests that should enhance community involvement in cultural practicer and preserver position for building the tourism product.
