IDENTIFYING THE ORIGINS AND MEANINGS OF GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES NAMED AFTER PEOPLE'S NAMES
Abstract
It was inevitable that the new area would be given a name to signify the existence of the community. The predecessor gave geographical sites recognizable, emotional names based on "what they saw and heard" and "using the names of plants, animals, historical events, people, and human activities. It is simple to comprehend and keep in mind. Based on the survey results of place names in 91 communes in Binh Duong, using statistics and analysis techniques, the paper aims to identify the origin of the meaning of locations named after people in Binh Duong. The findings show that the graves of historical personalities as well as the sites where people gave their lives in defense of the country were commemorated by the place that bears their name. Place names also represent the lives of the locals, including their livelihood, how they brought up their children, or simply the name of the owner of the house or property, someone who was exceptional, as well as the positions and presence of the French. According to research, place names are a valuable source of knowledge for identifying the history of the land and the people in a locality.
