THE IMAGE OF THE HERO – THE ARTIST IN CHU LAI'S NOVEL "RED RAIN"
Abstract
Chu Lai is a prominent name in contemporary Vietnamese literary life. As a writer - soldier, Chu Lai focuses on the main topic of war - soldiers. Red Rain (2016) is the second most prominent novel, after Beggar of the Past (2004). Red rain recreates the fierce battle of 81 days and nights in Quang Tri Ancient Citadel. Thereby, the author successfully built the image of a soldier. That is the soldier portrayed as having both a heroic fighting spirit and a romantic, soaring soul; has both determination to win, tolerance, generosity. From a poetic perspective, the article presents the multi-faceted image of the soldier in Chu Lai's Red Rain, thereby generalizing the "once-in-a-lifetime" soldier.
