THE INFLUENCE OF CONFUCIUS THOUGHT ON THE ARCHITECTURE AND DECORATIVE ARTS OF COMMUNAL HOUSES IN TWO COMMUNES OF TAN UYEN CITY, BINH DUONG

Abstract

The article is based on traditional Confucian views on beauty in architecture and fine arts to analyze the influence of Confucian thought hidden in the architecture and decorative arts of the communal houses surveyed in two ilse communes on Dong Nai river in Tan Uyen city, Binh Duong. The article is based on an interdisciplinary method, the author group exploited historical data, conducted ethnographic fieldwork, built hypotheses and synthesized analysis. Research results show that Confucianism has silently and persistently influenced the architecture and decoration of sacrificial spaces for the Tutelary God in the survey area. This is a new approach compared to previous studies.
