DIABETES SELF – MANAGEMENT AMONG DIABETIC PATIENTS IN WARD 9, TAN BINH DISTRICT, HO CHI MINH CITY
Abstract
A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 118 diabetes patients in Ward 9, Tan Binh district Ho Chi Minh city from January 2024 to April 2024 to investigate the diabetes self-management among diabetes patients through the Vietnamese version of Diabetes self – management instrument the self-management scale. disease in people with diabetes (V-DSMI) and association factors of disease self-management. The results showed that the average diabetes self-management mean score was 2.83 ± 0.46. Of these, 22.9% of participants were at a good level at diabetes self- management, 49.1% of participants were at moderated level and 28% of retain participants were at a poor level. Specifically, diabetes self-management regarding Medication adherence was the highest domain level with an average score of 3.49 ± 0.56 and self –interaction with health professional and significant other of 2.95 ± 0.45. However, the majority of participants have difficulty related to self-regulation (2.41 ± 0.87); and self-monitoring of blood glucose (2.55 ± 0.92), and integration 2.75 ± 0.65.Moreover, the study also indicated that female had better in diabetes self – management than male and participants who have lived longer with diabetes had higher diabetes self – management level. Training is needed to improve the diabetes self-management capacity of people with diabetes.
