SIMILARITIES IN THE PORTRAYAL OF WOMEN IN “LANH LUNG” BY NHAT LINH AND “MADAME BOVARY” BY GUSTAVE FLAUBERT

Abstract

The works “Lanh lung” by Nhat Linh and “Madame Bovary” by Gustave Flaubert are two famous novels from different literary backgrounds. Although they do not belong to the same literary period, upon examining these two works, we find many commonalities, especially in the depiction of women. This article applies comparative literature to explore the inevitable similarities in the portrayal of women in the two novels “Lanh lung” by Nhat Linh and “Madame Bovary” by Gustave Flaubert.
