Abstract

Catechin is a compound of a number of polyphenols extracted from green tea leaves (Camellia sinensis L.) and plays an important role in the biological activity of tea. Catechins contain powerful antioxidant compounds that inhibit the reaction of free radicals. In this study , we assessed the antioxidant capacity of catechins extracted from tea leaves (var TB14) in the tea area of Bao Loc (Lam Dong) by using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, 2,2'-azino-bis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid and potassium ferricyanide reducing antioxidant power methods. Results shown that catechin has an effectively antioxidant activities when compared to the standard substance vitamin C.
