Abstract

Stress in healthcare workers is becoming a serious problem in the world in general and in Vietnam in particular. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has overwhelmed the Vietnamese health system, and at the same time, made the problem of stress in health workers more serious than ever. A descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on 242 health workers at the COVID-19 treatment center, Military Hospital 175, from September 2021 to January 2022 to assess the stress status of health workers and find out some factors related to stress. The results showed that 5% of health workers had severe stress, 72.3% had moderate stress, and 22.7% experienced severe stress through mild stress. Differences in stress status of health workers when comparing groups of education (F = 3,371, p=0.003), seniority (F = 3,455, p=0.009), salary (F = 13,261, p = 0.000), work unit (F = 3,258, p = 0.013), have experienced stress (t = 3,370, p = 0.026), marital status (t = 5,075, p=0.007), and the status of offspring (t = -3.43, p = 0.033) were recorded. The stress status of health workers at the COVID-19 patient treatment center, Military Hospital 175 is quite common and similar to the stress level of health workers recorded in domestic and foreign studies. Research indicates that healthcare workers' personal and job characteristics are the main causes of stress.
