INDIA'S EXPERIENCE IN SECURING BORDER ECONOMIC SECURITY AND LESSONS FOR VIETNAM
Abstract
India is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world and is widely regarded as an emerging global power. While its central geographic location and strategic routes across the Indian Ocean have contributed significantly to this growth, the country's vast and complex borders present considerable challenges to economic security—challenges that must be addressed to sustain long-term economic development. India shares land borders with seven different countries, most of which are human-drawn rather than shaped by natural geographical barriers. Consequently, effective border management requires well-planned strategies and appropriate policy measures. Using a method of literature review and analytical synthesis, this paper examines India’s experience in safeguarding border economic security through policy instruments and the implementation of a smart border management framework. Based on this analysis, the study draws out key lessons for Vietnam in strengthening its own economic security in border regions
