MORAL VALUES IN THE WORSHIP OF VILLAGE TUTELARY GODS OF THE VIETNAMESE PEOPLE

Abstract: Village Tutelary Gods (Thành hoàng làng) are individuals who contributed to the village community, such as founding the village, protecting or helping, teaching trades, etc. The worship belief of Village Tutelary Gods embodies a humanistic spirit, upholding traditional moral values of the Vietnamese people such as: the principle of "drinking water, remembering its source," patriotism, and community solidarity. In the current context, where culture is placed on par with economics, and culture is a resource for development, researching and identifying moral values in the worship belief of Village Tutelary Gods in Vietnam is necessary to preserve and promote traditional moral values, awaken national pride, and steadfastly move into the new era of the nation.
