International law, Vietnamese law and the prospects for global treaty on plastic pollution
Abstract
While plastic pollution has not yet been thoroughly resolved by current international law provisions, it has reached an alarming level around the world, making addressing this issue more urgent than ever. Besides, plastic pollution is a global, transboundary, and interdisciplinary problem that requires cooperation and coordination among countries as well as the implementation of an international legal framework. Most countries aim to establish a global treaty on plastic pollution to tackle this plastic crisis. The article analyzes the shortcomings of regulations on preventing and managing plastic pollution in international law and the need for a global plastic treaty, including in the marine environment, and examines Party’s policies and Vietnamese laws to address plastic pollution, advancing toward a global treaty on this issue.
