Shortcomings in the implementation of legal aid laws for the poor: Practical insights from the Mekong delta and recommendations for legal reform

Abstract

This article analyzes shortcomings in the implementation of legal aid legislation for the poor in the Mekong Delta - one of the regions with the highest poverty rates in Vietnam. Drawing on data collected from this area, it highlights challenges related to resource constraints, implementation effectiveness and coordination among relevant agencies. Based on these findings, the article offers several recommendations for improving legal frameworks and policies, aiming to enhance the quality and effectiveness of legal aid services for the poor.
