Ensuring the rights of child victims in human trafficking cases
Abstract
In 2016, statistics collected by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime revealed more than 24,000 victims of human trafficking were detected, of which 30% were children (23% girls, 7% boys). While the majority of boys were subjected to forced labor (50%), the majority of girls were trafficked for sexual exploitation (72%). In Viet Nam, between 2012-2018, of the 6,808 victims of human trafficking, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs received and supported more than 3,500 victims, including nearly 3,400 female, and more than 600 people under 18 years old. This situation highlights the rights of trafficked victims and child victims in particular as an urgent matter to be addressed. This article analyzes the rights of child victims and how to guarantee their rights in human trafficking cases.
