Abstract

In the era of rapid digital transformation, social media has become an integral part of student life. This study investigates the dual impact - both positive and negative - of social media on the academic performance, career orientation, and personal development of students at Procuratorate University. Grounded in the theoretical frameworks of Uses and Gratifications Theory, Social Cognitive Theory, and Self-Determination Theory, the research conducted a quantitative survey of 320 undergraduate students and in-depth interviews with 10 representatives from different cohorts. Findings reveal that social media fosters relationship building, soft skills development, and access to legal information. However, significant risks were also observed, such as psychological pressure, ethical erosion, and potential overuse. The study calls for targeted digital media education and the enhancement of students’ self-regulation capacity to promote constructive and responsible social media use.
