A SMART ROUTING-TRANSMISSION PROTOCOL FOR BURSTY DATA IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORK
Abstract
Three important issues in sending bursty data from a multimedia node (MN) in a wireless sensor network (WSN) are high reliability in data transmission, low delay in image transmission, and low energy consumption. This paper proposes a smart routing-transmission protocol (SRTP) for fast and reliable image delivery. In this approach, a data path that includes a path node and a collaborative node at each tree level is established. Then, the nodes collaborate to forward packets reliably to nodes one level lower. Packets can be transmitted in a pipelined manner using multiple channels and a spatial slot reuse technique. Simulation results and analysis showed that the proposed protocol far outperforms the recent approach in terms of end-to-end delay and packet delivery rate while achieving low energy consumption.
