Abstract

The aim of this review is to show the applications of the biochar in carbon storage in the land and reducing greenhouse gas emissions to reduce the air environment pollution. The article is compiled from research published in the journals of the national and the international with ISI or Scopus index. These results show that the biochar has the ability to store carbon in the land and reduce greenhouse gas emissions (CH4 and N2O) to reduce the air environment pollution; the highest emission reduction ability of CH4 is 50% and N2O emission reduction is 39%. However, there are some studies show that biochar added to the soil does not reduce CH4 emissions and N2O emissions, even increases CH4 emissions and N2O emissions. This may be due to different databases and meta-analytic approaches. Therefore, there should be many more studies to clearly demonstrate the mechanism of reducing CH4 and N2O emissions of biochar.
