ABILITY TO MEET ENGLISH REQUIREMENTS OF TOURISM GRADUATES AT DA NANG ARCHITECTURE UNIVERSITY
Abstract
This research aims to assess the level of English proficiency among tourism graduates from Danang Architecture University in terms of meeting job requirements, based on students' self-assessment. The research surveyed 214 current students and alumni working or interning in the tourism industry. The results show that students' English proficiency is only at the average level in all four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The survey results of the components of four skills indicate that students still have limitations in advanced skills such as reading and comprehending specialized documents, writing reports, and working with foreign partners. These findings also suggest that the specialized English courses for tourism have not yet met the requirements of the labor market. The research proposes comprehensive solutions from the university, lecturers, and students themselves to improve English proficiency, especially advanced skills needed for work in the tourism industry.
