Abstract

The research-based teaching- learning method is very typical in advanced educational systems in the world, especially teaching to form new knowledge and abilities for students. However, this method is still new in Vietnam. In this study, we present results of theoretical analysis, summarize experience, and propose a teaching process for the topic "Mitosis" in the 10th grade Biology curriculum by the research-based teaching- learning method in order to contribute to the development of biological quality and competencies for students to meet requirements of general education innovation in Vietnam. Six steps of the research-based teaching-learning method have been proposed, including: (1) Experience and identify research questions; (2) Build research hypothesis and a plan to prove; (3) Design and conduct experiments to test the hypothesis; (4) Discuss experimental results to confirm the acceptance or rejection of the hypothesis; (5) Conclude core knowledge according to requirements to be achieved; (6) Write a report on practical results. This proposed process needs further experimentation to evaluate the positive effectiveness when implementing the 2018 general education program.
