KEY TO IMPROVE COMMUNICATION SKILL FOR STUDENTS MAJORING IN KOREAN STUDIES, DA LAT UNIVERSITY
Abstract
This study was conducted to understand the actual communication skill of students majoring in Korean studies, thereby proposing some solutions to overcome remaining limitations in Korean language training for students majoring Korean studies. The research was conducted using the Explanatory Sequential Mixed Method, which used both document collection methods: survey and in-depth interview. Research results show that the majority of students have numerous difficulties in improving and enhancing communication skills, lack initiative in communication activities, and the applicability of the learned content is quite high, but in reality the application efficiency is still low. From the research results, the authors propose a number of solutions such as: (1) combining socio-cultural content along with providing linguistic knowledge; (2) designing lessons so that learners can focus more on practicing two-way, receptive and expressive communication skills; (3) fostering initiative in communication for learners through group and club activities to create a more frequent communication environment.
