Abstract

The 2018 Literature curriculum features three sets of textbooks: Kite, Creative horizons and Connecting knowledge with life. These Vietnamese literature textbooks include a wide range of modern fictional prose works, some of which incorporate mythical motifs. This article aims to clarify the role of mythical motifs in modern Vietnamese fictional prose, thereby enriching the teaching and reception of literature in the 2018 Literature curriculum. This article employs key research methods such as mythical criticism and poetics criticism, along with analytical, synthetic, and comparative approaches. The study focuses on the characteristics of mythical motifs in modern Vietnamese fictional prose within the 2018 Literature curriculum, specifically examining the dream motif, transformation motif and death motif. The findings indicate that the recurrence of these motifs in modern Vietnamese fictional prose is an inheritance from folk literature. Additionally, these motifs have been adapted to better reflect contemporary Vietnamese life and people. Mythical motifs serve as a bridge between tradition and modernity, requiring interpretation from readers and learners.
