A RESEARCH OVERVIEW AND DEVELOPMENT DIRECTIONS OF MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION IN VIETNAMESE UNIVERSITIES
Abstract
Amidst the intensifying process of globalization, universities are no longer merely institutions for the transmission of knowledge, but have also become dynamic environments for intercultural interaction and exchange. This study adopts a theoretical research approach to collect and analyze both international and Vietnamese literature on multicultural education, with the aim of achieving the following objectives: (1) to provide a comprehensive overview of research on multicultural education; (2) to examine the current status and practices of multicultural education within higher education institutions; and (3) to propose strategic directions for advancing multicultural education in Vietnamese universities. The findings elucidate the significant role of multicultural education in preserving and enhancing traditional cultural values, while simultaneously cultivating students’ competencies in international integration and intercultural communication. Based on these insights, the study proposes several key orientations to promote the development of multicultural education in higher education, where the imperative for internationalization is becoming increasingly central.
