DESIGNING A SCALE TO EVALUATE STUDENTS' LEARNING PRODUCTS IN THE HISTORY SECTION OF THE HISTORY AND GEOGRAPHY SUBJECTS AT LOWER SECONDARY LEVEL
Abstract
Testing and assessment play a crucial role in shaping and developing students’ qualities and competencies. Among the popular methods used today, utilizing scales to evaluate students' learning products has gained attention. This study aims to provide an overview of such evaluation scales and propose ways to design several assessment scales for the History section of the History and Geography subject at the lower secondary level. The research results indicate that the designed assessment scales have been used to evaluate various types of student products in History, such as: historical paragraphs, role-play activities, study sheets, and infographics. Thereby, the situation of one-sided and biased assessment from teachers has been overcome, at the same time expanding the participants involved in assessment; and promoting students’ competencies, qualities, and creativity. In addition, the article contributes to enriching specialized materials on the design of assessment tools (assessment scales) in History teaching for lower secondary teachers.
