TEACHING STEM LESSONS ON THE TOPIC “SOUND”, SCIENCE GRADE 4 TO DEVELOP SELF-STUDY COMPETENCE FOR STUDENTS

Abstract

This study aims to solve the difficulties of teachers in implementing STEM education at primary level, through proposing a teaching organization process and a detailed assessment toolkit for the topic “Sound” of Science subject grade 4, aiming to develop autonomy and self-study capacity for students. By using theoretical research methods, the article has systematized the theoretical basis of STEM education, analyzed the technical design process and provided examples to illustrate the process according to the requirements of the Science program 4. The main results of the study are a STEM topic design process for teachers including 6 steps and a classroom teaching organization process including 5 activities, specifically illustrated through the topic “Secret Room”. At the same time, the study has proposed a rubric to assess autonomy and self-study competence including 3 levels and 6 criteria. The study provides a highly applicable reference document, contributing to supporting primary school teachers to be more confident and effective in organizing STEM teaching, meeting the capacity development goals of the General Education Curriculum 2018.
