PROMOTING THE ROLE OF THE VIETNAM TRADE UNION IN PROTECTING THE RIGHTS AND INTERESTS OF WORKERS IN NON-STATE ENTERPRISES TODAY
Abstract
In the context of Vietnam’s private sector increasingly becoming a key driver of the national economy, protecting workers’ legitimate rights and interests in non-state enterprises has posed new challenges. The objective of this study is to analyze the role of the Vietnam Trade Union in representing and safeguarding employees’ interests, and to propose solutions to enhance the protection of workers’ rights in non-state enterprises within a market-oriented economy. The research employs both qualitative and quantitative methods, based on the analysis and synthesis of secondary data sources, including Party documents, current legal frameworks, reports of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, statistical yearbooks, and relevant academic publications. The findings indicate that although trade unions have made significant contributions to collective bargaining, supervision, protection of workers’ interests, and workers’ welfare, their coverage and operational effectiveness remain limited, particularly in small and medium-sized enterprises. Accordingly, the paper proposes a set of solutions to strengthen the unions’ representative capacity, improve their operational efficiency, and foster harmonious, progressive, and sustainable labour relations between employees and enterprises.
