IMPLICATIONS FOR RESPONSIBLE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN KIEN GIANG PROVINCE (PRESENTLY PART OF AN GIANG PROVINCE) FROM THE TOURISTS' PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
This study was conducted in Kien Giang province (a portion of which is now part of An Giang province) to analyze tourists’ responses and propose implications for fostering responsible tourism development in the locality. Data were collected from a survey of 400 tourists and analyzed using descriptive statistical methods. The results indicate that tourists know about tourism in Kien Giang primarily through technology-based promotional channels and personal networks. Nature-based and health-enhancing forms of tourism are the most favored by visitors. Factors related to environmental hygiene, pricing, transportation, and tourism products are those with which tourists express the least satisfaction. Tourists desire better services in terms of food, order and safety, pricing, information, and experience, while also expecting responsibility toward nature and culture, and from service providers. Based on these findings, the study proposes several practical implications to promote responsible tourism development in Kien Giang.
