RESEARCH ON CHANGES IN MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS OF SANDWICH PANELS USING THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD

Abstract

During the manufacturing process of corrugated and trapezoidal core sandwich panels, the material deforms through different stages, leading to changes in the mechanical properties of the material at several different locations on the manufactured sandwich panel. Determining this change is difficult and expensive because experiments are required. Especially in numerical simulation models, it is necessary to provide complete and accurate material parameters of the model. This study proposes a procedure for determining the changes in the mechanical properties of sandwich panels using the finite element analysis method. This procedure allows for a comprehensive analysis of the changes in the mechanical properties of the material during the manufacturing process. The proposed procedure was applied to calculate cases of sandwich panels subjected to compression and bending. Comparison of the obtained results with experimental results, in published studies, showed the reliability of the proposed procedure.
