STUDY ON INDICATIONS OF FIRST TIME CAESAREAN SECTION AT THAI NGUYEN NATIONAL HOSPITAL IN TWO STAGES OF 2013 AND 2018
Abstract
Background: First time caesarean increases the risk of cesarean deliveries in the next time pregnancy, prolongs hospital stay, affects maternal and neonatal health and increases the significan cost of treatment. This study aims to: determine the proportin of first time caesarean in the first 6 months of 2013 and 2018 and to analyse caesarean indications at the two time points.
Study subjects and methods: A cross sectional, retrospective study was conducted on first time caesarean at Thai Nguyen follow-up in cases of congestive heart failure at Thai Nguyen national hospital from 01/01/2013 to 31/06/2013 and 01 / 01/2018 to 31/06/2018. Results: The proportion of first time caesarean in 2013 was 48.1% and 58.2% in 2018 (p <0.05). The caesarean indications by one reason in 2013 was 46.6% and 33.0% in 2018 (p <0.05). Caesarean indications by cervical non-progression in 2013 was 9.9% and 6.4% in 2018; by narrow pelvis in 2013 was 4.7% and 3.6% in 2018; by threatened uterine rupture in 2013 was 1.3% and 0.3% in 2018 (p> 0.05). Caesarean indications by mothers with pre-eclampsia, eclampsia in 2013 was 1.7% and 1.5% in 2018 (p> 0.05). Caesarean indications by fetal distress was 15.4% in 2013 and 8.2% in 2018; by fetal macrosomia in 2013 was 8.1% and 15.8% in 2018 (p <0.05). Caesarean indications by early amniotic break in 2013 was 34.6% and 19.2% in 2018; by lack of amniotic fluid in 2013 was 8.7% and 23.3% in 2018 (p <0.05). Caesarean indications by first time pregnancy in old mother in 2013 was 5.5% and 1.2% in 2018; by infertility in 2013 was 0.3% and 2.7% in 2018 (p <0.05). Conclusion: The proportion of first time caesarean is significantly increased, especially in the indication of fetal macrosomia and infertility.
