AN INVESTIGATION INTO PERCEPTIONS OF VIETNAMESE LEARNERS OF CHINESE LANGUAGE ABOUT PAIR AND SMALL-GROUP WORK AT THAI NGUYEN UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION

Abstract

This research aims at finding students' perceptions towards pair work and group work among Vietnamese learners of Chinese language following communicative language teaching (CLT). The teacher-centered or Grammar Reading Translation has been a dominated and popular method in Vietnam. There have not many researches in the field to find out student's perception to the issues. The participants in this research include 44 first year students at the College of Education, Thai Nguyen University. The finding shows that 70.7% of the participants said that they prefer pair work and group work in comparison with 35.3% chose the teacher-centered method. The finding also reveals that the cooperative learning and teaching should be implemented earlier in their foreign language teaching.
