Abstract

Pronunciation is a very important to help students to listen and speak well. While speaking English, students need to pronounce words clearly and have good intonation so that listeners can understand them; therefore, the lecturer chose movie dubbing to improve students’ pronunciation. This paper aims to consider whether movie dubbing or making ordinary videos is more effective in improving students’ pronunciation and to find out the challenges students had in each method. Participants were 40 students of class 61NNA1 (the control group) making 2 videos of their favourite types in groups and 40 students of class 61NNA4 (the experiment group) making 2 dubbing videos of 2 shorts films they liked. Both classes posted their videos to Elearning.ntu.edu.vn of their class. By the end of the course, the students had an oral test with both Vietnamese and English lecturers. Moreover, all the students made an online survey at surveymonkey.com to give their opinions and 10 random students of each class were interviewed. The result showed that movie dubbing improved students’ pronunciation more than making ordinary videos.
