Abstract

The paper presents the current situation of modeling teaching in the Lao People's Democratic Republic. The authors used survey methods, questionnaire and expert methods in data collection. The data is analyzed by mathematical statistics for the purpose of assessing the teaching status and modeling ability of students. Research results show that Laos programs and textbooks are still limited in linking school mathematical knowledge with practical problems. Moreover, most mathematics teachers are not yet capable of applying modeling in teaching to put real-life issues into teaching plans. The study also assessed the mathematical modeling competence of teachers and students. As a result, the paper proposes to use the modeling method in teaching mathematics as an innovative perspective on teaching methods in some Laos high schools.
