Abstract

In this study, qualitative analysis and biological activities of the ethanolic crude extract from roots of W. x “Bristol ruby” were investigated. The qualitative results showed the presence of flavonoid, terpenoid, coumarin and saponin triterpene in ethanolic crude extract without alkaloid, steroid and cardiac glycoside. The antioxidant activity on this crude extract was revealed with EC50 value of 71.94 µg/mL. The cytotoxic activity of ethanolic crude extract from roots of W. x “Bristol ruby” was further tested against colon cancer cell lines CT26 resulting a good cytotoxicity with an IC50 of 11.83 µg/mL, comparing to 5-Fluorouracil with an IC50 of 36.76 µg/mL. These results could be used further in order to isolate chemical compounds of ethanolic crude extract from roots of W. x “Bristol ruby” and further evaluate those biological activities.
