Abstract

The structure of Southern novels in the early 20th century has been a topic of interest for many researchers. However, it appears that the authors have only presented a limited number of typical structural types for certain works or genres, rather than a comprehensive analysis. A crucial question that needs answering is, what are the universal structural types utilized by Southern authors in the first half of the twentieth century in their compositions? After conducting surveys, statistics, analysis, and synthesis of the primary structural types in Southern novels during this period, it has been observed that the authors inherited the traditional structural styles of Eastern literature (traditional structure) and also incorporated innovation learned from the West (modern structure) in their novel compositions. The research aims to confirm the historical significance of Southern literature in the development of modernizing Vietnamese literature.
