THE SITUATION OF PART-TIME WORK ACTIVITIES OF MEDICAL STUDENTS AT THAI NGUYEN UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY

Abstract

The study objective was to describe the current situation of part-time work activities of medical students from first-year to third-year at Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2023 and evaluate the impact of part – time work on the life and study of students. A cross-sectional descriptive study through a survey of opinions of 806 medical students from first-year to third-year at Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2023. The results showed that the proportion of students who work part-time was 35.5%, the most popular job for students was service (34.9%), along with education at 32.3%. 43.3% of students worked part-time with the purpose of earning extra income and 23.8% wanted to accumulate experience. There were 61.5% of students who felt satisfied/very satisfied with their part-time job. Part-time work reduced the self-study time of 73.8% of students. The majority of students are satisfied with their part-time jobs. However, there are still limited opportunities for students to take on part-time jobs that are relevant to their field of study, such as working in pharmacies or clinics. Students wanted to be supported in finding a part-time job that suits their personality, major and managing their time, schedule, and learning methods more effectively.
