Abstract

The socialist-oriented market economy is the general economic model of Vietnam during the transition period to socialism. This economic model contributes to promoting the potentials and strengths of the country, the economic sectors of each individual and the regions of the country. This study was conducted to clarify the impact of the world and domestic context on the choice of the socialist-oriented market economic model in Vietnam from 1986 to present. The study mainly used historical and logical methods to evaluate and analyze the world situation as well as Vietnam to clarify the research problem. The research results show that the world and domestic context in the late 20th century required Vietnam to innovate to escape the socio-economic crisis as well as deeply integrate with the world. The choice of a socialist-oriented market economy model demonstrates the correct and creative application of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh thought to the specific conditions of Vietnam. The research results are an important scientific basis affirming that the choice of this economic model is correct, suitable for the requirements and practices of Vietnam.
