THE PROCESS OF SELECTING FOLK LITERATURE FOR IMPLEMENTING THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AGED 3-6 IN PRESCHOOLS OF ETHNIC MINORITY AREAS IN NORTHERN VIETNAM
Abstract
The selection of folk literary works in preschool education for children aged 3-6 plays a crucial role. Appropriate selection not only supports child care, nurturing, and education but also preserves cultural values and aligns with multicultural education goals. This study employed a survey to analyze the current process of selecting folk literature in early childhood programs in ethnic minority areas. The data were collected through a survey of 500 teachers across 24 preschools in Northern Vietnam. The findings show that most teachers lack a systematic process for selecting folk literary works. Therefore, this study proposes a five-step procedure for selecting folklore works in the implementation of early childhood education programs for children aged 3-6 in preschools located in ethnic minority areas of Northern Vietnam. The procedure provides teachers with a clear and systematic framework for the selection of literary works. It ensures that the works chosen are developmentally appropriate for preschool children, aligned with preschool objectives, and responsive to the socio-cultural context of the local community.
