ORIENTATION FOR APPROACHING THE LYRICAL WORKS IN THE GRADE 6 LITERATURE TEXTBOOK (KITE TEXTBOOK SERIES) ACCORDING TO GENRE’S CHARACTERISTICS
Abstract
In the Grade 6 Literature textbook (Kite textbook series), the lyrical works represent one of the major literary genres which are compiled with newly introduced texts and arranged systematically by genre. However, how to approach these works in order to highlight their distinctive features in comparison with other literary forms has attracted considerable attention from educators. This article, therefore, adopts a poetics-based perspective to examine and interpret methods of engaging with lyrical texts in accordance with their generic characteristics. The findings of the study lie in the author’s systematization of the characteristics of the lyric genre from a theoretical perspective. At the same time, the writer investigates and provides a comprehensive overview of the features of lyrical works included in the Grade 6 Literature textbook (the Kite texbook series). In particular, the author delineates the principles of literary approach and puts forward detailed guidelines for genre-based engagement in the process of lesson planning. The findings provide teachers with insights that may help resolve difficulties in teaching the lyrical works in line with the requirements of the current general education curriculum.
