THE CHARACTERS’ EXISTENTIAL JOURNEY IN “LOVE IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM” BY CAN XUE

Abstract

Can Xue is a contemporary Chinese writer with the strongest influence on the world literary scene. Her works are not only highly appreciated for their new and unique techniques but also for their profound philosophies. Reading Tan Tuyet's works, we will feel her love for humanity through her discoveries about the structure of the human soul. By employing methods such as existential criticism, statistical and classificatory analysis, and a stylistic approach (poetics), we conduct an in-depth study of the existential journey of the characters in the novel “Love in the New Millennium” by Can Xue. The research results show that the characters in the novel have experienced a state of pure freedom and death. Through that, the author has conveyed many meaningful and valuable thoughts and messages about life to readers. The article will affirm Can Xue's special talent as well as her philosophy of life imbued with the humanitarian spirit.
