SPACE OF MEMORIES AND SOUTHERN VIETNAMESE IDENTITY IN "DAT RUNG PHUONG NAM" BY DOAN GIOI

Abstract

This article focuses on analyzing the spatial memories, nature, dialect, and people of Southern Vietnam in “Dat rung phuong Nam” by Doan Gioi. The research applied the method of textual analysis to grasp and determine the space of memory, nature, dialect and people in the work. The method of comparison and contrast was used to find similarities and differences and the biographical and systematic method to better understand the career and personality of Doan Gioi. Applying the geo-cultural method also revealed the connection between geographical space, culture, and human factors in “Dat rung phuong Nam”. The research results pointed out and affirmed the rich landscape, activities and customs of the Southern residents; the familiar local vocabulary in daily communication and the Southern people possessing their own unique qualities. From there, this study affirms the position and contribution of Doan Gioi in Southern literature (1954-1975) when presenting the land and people of the South to readers nationwide, contributing to shaping the contribution of Vietnamese revolutionary literature.
