STUDY ON CHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF DILLENIA INDICA L. LEAVES IN CAO BANG PROVINCE
Abstract
Dillenia indica Linn belonging to family Dilleniaceae has been has been widely used in people's daily life in Cao Bang province and Northern mountainous provinces of Vietnam as food; leaves and bark are used to treat kidney stones, fever, edema, bloating, cough, malaria, colds, flu, laxative, diarrhea, anti-inflammatory, etc… Results of quantitative analysis of some components of ethanol extract (DIM) from Dillenia indica leaves, including: moisture content (6.2%), total ash content (8.1 reducing free sugars content (10.2%), cellulose content (12.1%), sterols content (23.6%), flavonoids content (6.8%) and terpenoids content (13.9%). The DIM extract showed good anti-inflammatory activity, inhibition of nitric oxide (NO) production with IC50 value of 16.1 g/mL; good antioxidant activity by DPPH assay with SC50 value of 20.03 µg/mL; and in vitro relatively good cytotoxic activity against two human cancer cell lines: liver cancer HepG2 cells and carcinoma KB cells with IC50 values of 17.07 µg/mL and 20.56 µg/mL, respectively. The ethanol extract (DIM) from Dillenia indica leaves has the potential to be developed into medicinal products that supports human health care.
