Abstract

The objective of the study is to determine self-directed learning readiness (SDLR) among undergraduated nursing students and identify related factors. By using the cross-sectional descriptive study design, this study examined 285 nursing students at Eastern International University and Hong Bang International University. The finding showed the mean readiness score was not high ((M = 148.42, SD = 21.1). The mean domains’ scores for self-management, desire for learning, and self-control were 44.74, 47.42, and 56.26, respectively. There were statistically significant differences in level of self-directed learning readiness based on year of study, results of last semester and quantity of self-study hours. Besides, a strong positive correlation was found between the three domains (p-value < 0.05). The SDLR score in this study indicates that students do not achieve self-study ability, so there is a need for implementing teaching strategies that will help students in improving their readiness for independent learning.
