AN ASSESSMENT OF WATER QUALITY, CAPACITY OF POLLUTIONS, AND SOLUTIONS TO REDUCE POLLUTION OF URBAN RIVERS IN THAI BINH PROVINCE
Abstract
Water pollution in river basins is increasing due to urbanization and industrialization. The main reason for this situation is that the quality of wastewater from industrial parks and residential areas has not met the national technical regulations on the environment. This study aims to assess water quality changes, calculate the carrying capacity of pollutants and propose solutions to reduce water pollution in Bo Xuyen and Bach rivers in Thai Binh province. The method of assessing the carrying capacity of rivers according to the guidance of Circular 76/2017/BTNMT and the pollutant transmission model MIKE 11 were used to determine the carrying capacity of pollutants of the Bach and Bo Xuyen rivers. Research results show that water sources of Bach and Bo Xuyen rivers are no longer able to bear the load for parameters COD, BOD5, NH4+, NO2- and PO43-. Calculation results of load capacity are the basis for proposing measures to manage, improve and restore polluted water sources such as Bach River and Bo Xuyen River.
