The potential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in agricultural production activities in Tay Ninh province

Abstract

Based on IPCC (2006) guidelines and related studies, this research evaluates the status of GHG emissions as well as the potential and effectiveness of reducing GHG emissions in agriculture for Tay Ninh province to develop future emission reduction targets in each agricultural production sector. Calculation results show that the total emissions in 2022 are 2,205.27 thousand tons CO2eq/year; and applying GHG mitigation solutions is estimated to reduce 1,479.30 thousand tons of CO2eq/year. If we consider the emission reductions due to conservation and maintenance of afforestation and rubber plantation, Tay Ninh will have a total GHG emissions of -821.57 thousand tons CO2eq/year, equivalent to 45.6 million USD/year if GHG emission Cota can be sold at an average price of 55.5 USD/ton CO2eq.
